Harlem is often described as an unsafe place but did you know it was also the place cultural and intellectual movement was where a born ? 

The Harlem renaissance is as an explosion of intellectual and cultural revival in  Harlem for African Americans. There was  music with many famous talented jazz musicians like Dizzy Gylepsie, Louis    Armstrong Duke Hellington.But there was also painting, Jazz poetry and literature   With writers like Alain locke and Langston Hughes 

This movement was also called « the new negro movement »

Alain locke was famous phylosopher and writer during The Harlem renaissance.
One of his famous books is entilted The New Negro 

Jazz poetry is poetry with rhytm similar to jazz . Langston Hughes was famous un this field . I Too Sing  America one of his well known poems. 
In this poem he denounce the discrimination of  white people against blacks and he expresses his hopes for more equality 

Archibald Motley was a famous painter during the Harlem renaissance
